A unique opportunity has become available for a Livestock Exchange Operator, Night Watchman to join the Central West Livestock Exchange (CWLE) Team at Forbes Shire Council. 

Reporting directly to the Supervisor Saleyards, the aim of this position is to work as a multi-skilled team member at the CWLE undertaking a range of duties associated with routine cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

This position will work on alternate weeks for 4 consecutive days (including Saturday and Sundays) to provide coverage and oversight of the facility ensuring compliance rules and regulations over the weekends.

Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to work with minimum supervision using judgement and initiative and provide high level customer service to the CWLE users. If you have demonstrated 'stock sense' and the ability to work safety with livestock, we urge you to apply. 

Please note - If successful in this opportunity, you will be required to work on alternate weekends and may be offered the opportunity for casual employment during your allocated "off-week" to supplement your weekly wage. Attractive conditions and penalties including weekend rates will be available for the successful candidate of this position.

Essential

  • Certificate III in Agriculture or other relevant certification (Desirable)
  • Minimum of 12 months relevant practical experience in maintenance and labouring
  • SafeWork General Construction Induction Card or the ability to obtain (White card)
  • Certificate of competency (or willingness to obtain) for the following:
    • Skid Steer
    • Skid Steer Loader or willingness to obtain; and
    • Frontend Loader or willingness to obtain.
  • Demonstrated high level conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Able to work with minimum supervision using judgement and initiative
  • Able to complete standard forms and provide written information in hard copy and online
  • Able to complete WHS Site Specific Risk Assessments and undertake work activities in the manner specified in the relevant Work Method Statement
  • Able to provide effective customer service to the CWLE Stakeholders
  • Developed communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate within your team and with management
  • Firearms license (or the capacity to obtain during recruitment process); and
  • Class C (Standard) Driver's License.

 

Experience

  • Demonstrated ‘stock sense’ and the ability to work safely with livestock
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Chain of Responsibility compliance in the Saleyards industry
  • Certification and demonstrated experience in the Humane Destruction of Livestock (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience working with various IT systems including Microsoft Office and the ability to use mobile devices such as iPads for data and reporting
  • Certification in Welding and/or demonstrated experience in welding using electric arc equipment (Desirable); and
  • Irrigation or water pump knowledge.

  • Shortlisting - The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
  • Interview - You will be given at least 2-days' notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
  • Reference checks and other checks - Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
  • Pre-employment Functional Assessment - The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and Alcohol Testing and a hearing screen
  • Notification of the result - The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once the offer of employment has been accepted, and Council has been formally notified of the acceptance.
